Scholarship Description: The Laboratory of the process, materials and Solar Energy (PROM) is a PhD candidate open position. The position is funded by the European Commission. The candidate will work in a very attractive European multidisciplinary research project entitled “Optimization of a thermal energy storage system with integrated steam generators,” including more than 10 partners in various European countries. The role of laboratory Promes in the European project is working on the thermal simulation of a Thermocline Tank with welding consumables. Thermal and chemical characterization of various association MS / Filler materials are investigated. Several vitrified waste, identified as potential welding additives are to be driven in the presence of MS at high temperatures. The chemical compatibility of the few MS / Filler materials at high temperature as well as the various thermo-physical properties are investigated. Candidate will also develop a Thermocline Tank Circuit with filler materials with regard to the type of filler material and its geometry simulation tool to predict.
The thermal dynamic behavior of the Thermocline tanks (storage, discharge makes, …) are examined and optimized in terms of the thermo physical properties of the material filling (heat capacity, conductivity, …) and on the structure of the solid phase in the tank (geometry, porosity , …). The candidate will benefit from an attractive scientific environment.
The candidate will participate with its European partners (CIEMAT, Fraunhofer, Weizmann, CEA, …) and should be able to work its will in international conferences specializing in solar energy (solar Paces, Sollab, …)
