The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) offers the position of a

Group Leader for Junior Research Group in the field of either Bioinformatics or Modelling (Code 17/10)

- Salary according guidelines and dependent upon experience (up to Entgeltgruppe 14 TVöD)

The position of the Group Leader is limited to a five year term. The appointment may be considered for extension.

RKI plans to establish a Junior Research Group either in the field of

• Bioinformatics with a focus on structural bioinformatics/proteomics, sequence analysis or integrative bioinformatics/databases;

or

• Modelling with a focus on mathematical modelling and simulation of diseases, in particular infectious diseases. This comprises the development of new strategies and models and their evaluation based on available data.

The successful candidate will have a PhD in a relevant discipline (e.g. Bioinformatics, Informatics, Mathematics or natural sciences). He/she will have an internationally recognized research record in the field of Bioinformatics or Modelling. Applicants are further expected to have experience acquiring funding for, and carrying out, sponsored research.

The focus of this Junior Research Group will depend upon the specialization of the successful candidate (e.g. either Bioinformatics or Modelling). The Junior Research Group will consist of the Group Leader, two PhD candidates and project assistance. Appropriate material expenses will be provided.

The RKI is the central federal institution in Germany responsible for disease control and prevention. It is dedicated to excellence in both basic and applied research, is responsible for disease surveillance at the federal level and develops and coordinates response measures in the Public Health Sector. RKIs scientific expertise encompasses a wide range of infectious disease epidemiology and laboratory science within the Institute and emphasis is placed on both internal and external interdisciplinary cooperation.
