Scholarship Description: The MU Biodesign and Innovation Program (MUBIP) is located on the University of Missouri – Columbia campus. The MUBIP is a collaborative group of surgeons, engineers, and business professionals. Faculty members hold appointments in the School of Medicine, the Department of Surgery or the College of Engineering. Business experts such as successful entrepreneurs, angel investors and venture capitalists serve as faculty members of MUBIP and provide networking opportunities. Several core faculty members of MUBIP have been identified by industry as serial inventors in the medical device arena. The purpose of the program is to improve health care through the invention and implementation of new medical technologies.

The Physician Biodesign Research Fellowship and the Biodesign and Innovation Fellowships are for surgeons, engineers and business individuals who have an interest in a career developing new medical technologies. Optimal background for the engineer and business fellowship candidates is to have completed a masters program, however, other circumstances, e.g. work experience, may be considered. Optimal background for the surgeon fellow is to have completed two years of residency.
