GL Garrad Hassan is the world’s largest independent technical and engineering consultancy for renewable energy. It is the recognised global authority on onshore and offshore wind power and also serves the wave, tidal and solar sectors.

The organisation is currently looking for a Research Engineer to assist with further development of its industry-standard, commercial wind turbine design software package -Bladed. The role will be based at GL Garrad Hassan’s office in Hinnerup, Denmark, and linked to an Industrial PhD education in collaboration with Aalborg University, Department of Civil Engineering. The successful applicant will be involved in a range of activities including:

• Development of a non-linear structural model of wind turbine blades
• Development of an algorithm for non-linear dynamic stability analysis of a complete wind turbine
• Implementation in existing software package “GH Bladed”
• Using the software for design load calculations and research activities
• Functional testing of new versions
• Training and supporting internal and external users of the software
• Investigating and analysing problems reported by users

The successful applicant will have:

• A degree in engineering, mathematics or physics
• An excellent understanding of physics and mechanical engineering fundamentals
• Good organisational and communication skills with the ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team
• The ability to speak and write fluently in English
• A willingness to travel within Europe and, on occasion, worldwide

Training specific to wind turbine engineering will be given as appropriate. Career development support, including support for obtaining chartered engineer status, will be available. Salaries are highly competitive and will be based upon the skills and experience of individuals.
