Duties: The successful candidates should be competent to teach Communication and Academic Literacy to undergraduate students.  They will be required to : (i) teach Communication and Academic Literacy courses to first- and post first-year students from any of the following Faculties: Arts and Education, Business and Economics, Natural and Applied Sciences, Health Sciences, Engineering and the Built Environment, and Social Sciences; (ii) teach Communication Studies to undergraduate students; (iii) conduct research in relevant areas and (iv) carry out any other duties that may be assigned by the Deputy Director of the Unit.

Note: Council agreed on 3 September 2010 that the Communication and Study Skills Unit will move to the School of Media, Information and Communication in the Faculty of Arts and Education as part of the re-structuring of the academic division of the University of Botswana in 2011.

Requirements: Candidates should have: (i) a PhD degree in any of the following areas: Applied Linguistics, Academic Literacy/Literacies, English for Specific Purposes, English for Academic Purposes, Communication Studies, Science Communication, Health Communication, Technical Communication; (ii) some experience in teaching Communication, Academic Literacy or English for Academic Purposes at tertiary level; (iii) have at least 6 publications, 4 of which are peer reviewed journal articles; Lead or Single author in at least 2 journal articles or book chapters;  (iv) evidence of teaching and/or developing innovative teaching methods; (v) computer skills; (vi) evidence of academic leadership and evidence of service to the university, the profession and the community. Applicants with proven research experience in science, technical or health communication will be preferred.
