A research position is available in the Vestibular and Auditory Research Group to work on the contribution of the vestibular system to learning and memory. Damage to the balance organs in the inner ear (the ‘vestibular system’) causes memory deficits. This is because the brain uses vestibular information about head movement and position to develop memories for places in the environment. If the vestibular system is necessary for the development of such memories, it is possible that artificial stimulation of the vestibular system may enhance memory. Applicants will be expected to have a PhD in neuroscience, or equivalent. Experience in electrophysiology would be an advantage.
The successful applicant will be expected to work as part of a team and to take responsibilities associated with the organisation of the Laboratory.
The position is available for three years, commencing March 2010.
Specific enquiries may be directed to Professor Paul Smith, Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology, Otago School of Medical Sciences, Email paul.smith@otago.ac.nz.
Although this position is open to applicants from outside Dunedin, New Zealand, relocation assistance will not be available.
Applications quoting reference number A09/179 close on Friday 22 January 2010.
